MSSPA prepares to host its 2nd Animal Well Fair

The Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals is calling all volunteers and friends to lend a helping hand with the Animal Well Fair, scheduled to be held at the Society’s River Road farm on Sunday, October 11th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.. The public is invited, without admission expense, to attend the Animal Well Fair and help celebrate the importance of animals in our lives. read more »

Every Bale Counts

The wet weather conditions in Maine this summer have damaged crops for gardeners and farmers alike. But no crop has been more severely harmed than hay. When there are 90 horses to be fed each day, every bale of hay helps to keep one of our formerly abused or neglected animals contentedly chewing. read more »

Daisy Girl Scouts meet Horses of the MSSPA

Spring in Maine brings potholes, peepers, and perennials such as crocuses and daisies. The Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals welcomed spring daisies of its own when Daisy Troop 216 of Grey-New Gloucester visited the River Road Farm last week. Troop leader, Sarah Walters and several parents came along with the Daisy scouts to learn about the animals living at the Society. read more »

David Jefferson, Rachel Flaherty, and Janelle Tirrelle of Maine Equine Associates donated their time and expertise for the benefit of both the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals and the nearly sixty people in attendance. School Children Raise Money to Feed Starved Horses

Many school children in Maine are learning the golden rule in the most practical of ways. With the help of their teachers, families, and friends they come to tour the barns of the Society and learn about the many animals who call the barns home. Society staffers welcome the opportunity to provide a small bit humane education and tell the children the stories of the horses they can see and touch. read more »
