Staff at the MSSPA are busy preparing for the annual holiday Open House at 279 River Road in South Windham. The house and barns will be filled with holiday cheer from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 8th. Everyone is invited to celebrate the spirit of the season by stopping in and meeting the horses who have been restored to health at the Society. Meet the Belgian mare, Delila, and her baby, Dianna, who were rescued last December from neglectful circumstances in Western Maine. Say hello to all your favorite rescued animals, re-connect with your friends and neighbors, and get in touch with the true meaning of the holidays. There will be great food, warm drinks, photo ops, and gifting, giving opportunities galore!

The Society is one of the nation's oldest animal welfare organizations. It was founded in 1872 and has been serving Maine's equine and farm community ever since. By receiving seized large animals into its care and returning them to healthy, meaningful lives at no cost to Maine taxpayers, the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals donates nearly a million dollars in services to Maine's economy each year. The Society is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, which receives no public funding. Funding for the animal rescue activities of the MSSPA is provided by membership dues, donations, bequests, in-kind gifts, grants, and the generosity of animal supporters everywhere.

When you want to be reminded what the holidays are really about, come and visit the MSSPA. Our facilities are open to the public daily from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. The barns close at 3:00 pm to permit the night feeding and care of our large animals. The spirit of giving and love for those most in need makes the holiday season special for each of us; experience that spirit in the warmth of our barn during our holiday Open House. From the smell of the balsam boughs to the munching of hay in the manger, we promise it will be the most renewing, relaxing, rewarding holiday party you will attend this season!
