Buck is a very confident and handsome 12-year-old recent gelding. Soon after his arrival to the MSSPA, the kind folks at Horses With Hope treated him for ulcers, began a calming supplement, and introduced bodywork (massage) while slowly beginning work in the round pen and arena. HWH started showing him how to use his body more correctly, with emphasis on a nice bend and softening through the topline and had consistently done groundwork, lunging, and round pen work with Buck.
Now Buck is back at MSSPA’s River Road shelter where he is continuing his work on w/t/c and being under saddle. He has been great to saddle (both English and Western), never bucking or negatively reacting, and the quality of his gait has greatly improved. His walk/trot is good, but his canter is a little sloppy as he is currently unbalanced and not muscled. He is a happy-go-lucky guy who is eager to work. Buck is smart, handy, and sure-footed; he is thoughtful, wants to meet you in the middle, and likes to be out and about. He loves the trail and is wonderful to take out alone.
Buck would do best in a home without mares but seems to do fine with other geldings. He is safe, sound, and needs an intermediate handler/rider to help continue his training.
