Breed: Quarter Horse cross
Nellie is in training with our partners at Horses with Hope. From their website: “Nellie is a gorgeous 14.1 hand palomino mare who is with us for training from the MSSPA. Nellie’s exact age isn’t known but she is believed to be in her mid-teens. Nellie has not had the best experiences thus far, as she spent at least several months of her life tied to a pole with no shelter. Nellie was in very poor condition when she was seized, but has bounced back due to the wonderful care she received from the folks at the MSSPA. Upon our initial evaluation Nellie is extremely friendly, but can be a bit pushy. Her previous training is unknown, so we will take our time teaching her the basics and providing her with a good foundation.
After several months of training, Nellie’s ground work has improved tremendously and she has been ridden in the arenas at the walk and trot. She displays a nice steady trot and can carry herself in a relaxed frame. Nellie would do well in a program which will provide consistent work in the arenas, and she is steady enough to be used for lessons on a lunge line. Because of her traumatic history she does struggle with separation anxiety during turn out, and will require a knowledgeable home with good fencing to help her in this area. However, once settled in a program and routine she can be quite steady and very sweet. We will post more updates on Nellie as they become available.”
