Youth Programs

Our youth programs aim to promote powerful connections between horses and young humans. These connections form most deeply on the farm in the presence of horses, though our staff is available to visit schools and other venues to talk about equine welfare, care, behavior, and handling.

All experiences at the farm are unique and flexible depending on the horses and people present on any given day. A typical visit ranges from 1 – 2 hours (depending on the age group and planned activities) and may include:

  • Introductions and discussion about the MSSPA – its history, its horses, and their stories
  • Farm tour – learn how the farm works and meet the horses
  • Educational activities focused on horse communication and body language, horse care and management, equine anatomy, etc.
  • Hands-on interaction with the horses*, for example, grooming, leading, etc.

*Hands-on experiences are available depending on the age group, availability of appropriate horses, and availability of staff to help handle horses. Due to the need for increased staff presence and use of our rescue horses during hands-on experiences, we ask for a donation per person to participate in these activities.
