Thanksgiving Angels

The Arrival of the Thanksgiving Angels, November 2025

The first four of our ‘Thanksgiving Angels’ arrived at the farm last Friday and the Society was ready to welcome them.

Two donkeys and two miniature horses came first and began to settle in. On that same day, three other donkeys from this herd headed directly to a veterinarian for needed care.

These arrivals mark a sea change for this little family and in the coming days they will receive intake exams, farrier care, and plenty of fresh hay and water. Re-feeding any new horse that arrives at the farm is a careful and individualized process. Once one of our veterinarians has performed an intake evaluation on incoming herd members, they advise the MSSPA staff as to next steps for feeding. And every horse is on its own ‘meal plan’ if it needs to gain weight. (These mini horses will both be on special diets to help them *lose* weight.) These horses and donkeys will also – soon – be seen by the farrier.

And today, the last three donkeys were transported from the vet to the MSSPA. They will be tucked into the McCulloch Family Barn; the barn is so close to completion that staff was able to ready it to receive these last three angels. They will need time to settle, to begin to heal, and to get acquainted with their new surroundings. They all will quarantine for a month; it has already proven difficult not to hug them… each one of them is completely adorable.

The Society is so grateful that these new friends are here to begin their road to recovery.

And, our gratitude extends to you – our generous supporters – who walk the road to recovery right beside them.
