Recently, the nonpartisan Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals welcomed two of Maine’s gubernatorial candidates to the River Road farm. Janet Mills, herself a former horse owner, enjoyed meeting Penny, a young Tennessee Walker seized from a neglectful owner. Penny has undergone rehabilitation and is available for adoption at the nonprofit horse shelter. Shawn Moody also met several rescued horses in the barns and adopted two stuffed horses for his grandchildren. Both Mills and Moody spent time touring the Society’s nearly-completed $2 million Keddy/Goodreau equine training arena, meeting with volunteers, visitors, and staff while discussing Maine’s animal welfare issues.
