Meet Chica and Dancer!

Meet Chica and Dancer, two of the sweetest grey mares on the planet! They are looking for a new home together. Please reach out to their person, Emily, by phone for questions or with interest in these two lovely mares.
Phone: (207) 479-4484
Dancer (1999 – flea bitten grey) and Chica (2006 – grey) are looking for a new home, as their people have retired and moved off the farm and soon, no one will be living there to take care of them. Dancer is a Quarter Horse/Connemara cross and Chica is a QH, both about 15hh.  Both girls were lightly trail ridden last summer and are likely able to continue doing light trail rides. They both pony well, so if you like to ride out alone, you can ride one and pony the other!
Dancer does very well in the ring WTC and is very easy going. She has been with her current family for over 15 years, which makes rehoming very emotionally difficult for her family. She has a hard time trailer loading, but it otherwise a very good girl.
Chica was a barrel racer in her past and knows less about ring work but does her best and is a good girl. She recently hurt her back leg out in the paddock – the vet did x-rays and didn’t find anything – they are hopeful she just tweaked something being a horse with her friend and will heal up in time.
Both girls are UTD with the farrier and will have their spring shots. They have not seen a dentist in a couple of years.

Meet Kit and Satchel!

**This is a courtesy post for Northstar Horse Rescue**
Meet Kit and Satchel, a bonded pair who are looking for a new home together. Please contact Northstar Horse Rescue by email or phone/text.
Phone: (207) 317-7565
Kit is a beautiful 2012 Thoroughbred chestnut mare. She is about 15.2 hh and has been at Northstar Horse Rescue since she was 10 months old. At age 3 and 4, she was started under saddle and lightly ridden. She has no vices and is completely sound. She is sweet, flashy, and gentle and needs someone who can work with her with a reputable trainer.
Her best friend, Satchel, is a 22 year old gelding would love to go with her – they are the best of friends.
Their ideal person would be someone who is involved in equestrian sports or showing, or who is a serious horse person. Kit is not a horse for a beginner or someone looking for a pasture pet. She deserves a career and we are searching for that person who can be her best friend and partner!
If you have a place in your heart for these two bonded horses, please reach out to Lizzie. There is an adoption application and prospective adopters should expect a farm visit, a background/employment/references check. Northstar Horse rescue is a 501c3 nonprofit. Horses adopted through us cannot be raced, resold, or bred, and go with an adoption contract.

Meet Fab!

Meet Fab “KN Fabulous Profit,” a 2019, 15.1hh QH gelding. Please reach out to Fab’s person, Kate, with questions or for more information.

Email: [email protected]
Phone: (207) 653-7769

Fab is a very well-bred QH who was intended to be a barrel racing star, but unfortunately, a right stifle issue ended his career too early. He is currently suitable as a companion horse (no riding).

**He is an absolute lovebug 🐞
**Enjoys attention
**Is easy to handle
**Has been good in ANY herd we’ve put him in
**Great for the vet and farrier – is great barefoot
**Ties and has good ground manners
**Good in a stall or out 24/7 with a run-in
**Easy keeper – no special feeds or supplements
**UTD on vaccines, teeth, feet

Meet Chance!

Meet Chance, a 12-13 year old, 15.2hh, grade, paint gelding who is being rehomed as a companion or light use only. Please contact Heather, Chance’s owner, for inquiries about Chance.
Phone: (207) 890-7294
Email: [email protected]
Chance is seeking a gentle, experienced home. His family is facing severe hardship and must evacuate their home for safety and health reasons (toxic mold and structural damage). He has been loved beyond measure, and they are hoping to find him a safe, healthy place where he can thrive. His rehoming is a last resort that they have been forced into considering. His current people are searching for a new person for Chance, one who will offer him a safe place to land, forever.
⭐️About Chance
Chance is a wise, sensitive horse with a huge heart. He bonds deeply with his person and does best with someone who values connection, patience, and gentle handling.
He is not currently ridden — he’s always shown a strong objection to being under saddle, and I’ve chosen to respect that. The right person may one day explore very light riding, but only if he is completely comfortable. His emotional and physical well-being always come first.
Chance thrives with calm, consistent interaction and someone who listens closely to his cues. He is not suited for someone who pushes or rushes; he needs an owner who prioritizes trust and partnership.

🐴Companion Requirements
Chance needs a sound, sturdy, confident companion. He does not feel safe with an anxious, unsound, or unstable herd mate. Having a solid buddy is essential for his emotional comfort and security.

🌿Health & Care
Medical / Physical
• Had strangles in April 2021; was hospitalized, treated, and recovered fully.
• Mild locking stifle, managed very well with regular movement.
• Small sarcoid under the girth area — unchanged for years and not bothersome. Tried Silver Lining Herbs for a year with no change.
• Developed intermittent runny nose this summer. Full vet work-up including X-rays showed no infection; vet believes allergies. He will be starting generic Zyrtec this week (approximately $45/month via bulk Amazon purchase).
• Tolerates stall time when needed (bad weather or injury), but currently lives in an open stall connected to a large dry lot and track system.
• Dental done every 6-9 months. He has built an amazing relationship with Toby Densmore, the Float Fairy.
• Hooves trimmed every 4-6 weeks – requires a patient, calm, gentle voiced farrier. Elizabeth Glass has been an amazing fit for him for the past 4 years.
• Kept up to date on vaccines and does very well for his vets at Annabessacook Veterinary.
Diet / Management
• Thrives on soft, fine hay.
• Will get Free Fecal Water Syndrome if fed coarse or stemmy hay.
• Not suitable for free-choice hay unless paired with consistent exercise.
• Can be a picky eater and has done best on a forage-based diet. His current feeding routine:
• 1 cup soaked Timothy pellets
• ¼ heaping cup Vermont Blend
• 1 tbsp salt (twice daily)
• Elevate Vitamin E once daily
• Recently added a small amount of Hay Stretcher Pellets to help him eat supplements; a switch to a different ration balancer may also work well
• Receives weighed hay 4x/day, with a mix of loose hay and hay nets.
• Benefits from an owner who is attentive to subtle changes in appetite, comfort, and routine.

💛Ideal Home
Chance deserves a peaceful, loving environment with:
• A gentle, intuitive owner
• A healthy, confident equine companion
• Someone who prioritizes the horse’s needs above riding goals
• A consistent, predictable routine
• A quiet, thoughtful management setup with safe footing and good-quality hay

Meet Ellie!

Meet Ellie, a 23 year old Haflinger mare. Please contact Ellie’s owner, Rick, with any questions about Ellie.
Phone: (207) 651-3863
Ellie is a sweet girl who has been with her current owners as a beloved pet for over 20 years. Due to the recent passing of Rick’s wife, their farm has become too much to manage on his own. As such, Ellie is looking for a new, loving home to live out the rest of her days!
Ellie foundered about 10 years ago and takes daily thyroid medication. Please reach out to her owner for more information.

Meet Midge!

** This is a courtesy post for Northstar Horse Rescue **
Meet Midge, a cob-sized (14.2 hh), 25 year old pony mare. If you are interested in hearing more about this amazing little mare, please contact Elizabeth by phone or email.
Phone: (207) 317-7565 Email: [email protected]
Midge (or “Midgie” as she is affectionately known) has a lot of spunk for being 25 years old. She came to Northstar Horse Rescue due to her owner being unable to care for her. Midgie has been a lesson horse, has shown, and has done hunter jumpers. While she may not be overly enthusiastic about jumping anymore, she is a super fast ponies who keeps up with the thoroughbreds at the rescue!
** She is looking for her new best friend to love on her. **
** She adores having her mane and tail brushed. **
** She does well turned out with one or two assertive mares. She cannot be turned out with geldings. **
** She will go with a contract – no resale, must be returned to the rescue if she does not settle into her new home. **

Meet Greyson!

Greyson is a 21 year old, 15.2hh, grade gelding. Please contact Greyson’s owner, Marina, for more information or other inquiries.
Phone: (207) 691-2887
Greyson is a gorgeous, older gentleman who is ready for semi-retirement as a light trail riding horse or companion. He has been there, done that – hunter jumper shows, eventing, trail rides, and beginner lessons – and now he is ready to relax!
He is a giant goofball with a big heart and a soft spot for cookies. He is great with kids, dogs, cats, and equipment. He would be best suited for light trail rides, hanging out with his friends, and his next one person who will love him! He will be rehomed with a contract and first right of refusal to his current owner.

Meet Metro!

Meet Metro, a 16hh, 12 year old OTTB gelding. Please contact Metro’s owner, Kim, for inquiries about this special boy.

Email: [email protected]

Phone: (978) 702-7303

** Please note, this horse is located in southern New Hampshire **

Meet My Man Metro, a sweet chestnut gelding who is looking for a new place to call home. His owner successfully showed him on the NHHJA circuit for 3 seasons, took home ribbons, and had a lot of fun. Their fun came to an abrupt halt late in 2023 when he tripped at the canter and his neuro status was called into question. Long story short, a trip to UPenn/NBC and he has definitive compression in his C5-C6 vertebrae with osteoarthritis in C6-C7, making him unfit (read: unsafe) to ride. He is not a danger to himself (i.e. falls unexpectedly) or to handlers from the ground but he is a companion only placement, no riding.

While his owner would love to keep him, it just isn’t a viable option in the long run. He is the heart horse for his owner and rehoming will come with a contractual agreement and first right of refusal to his current owner.

He is a very special goober gelding…sweet, snuggles, dopey and cute – a boy, through and through. The ideal home would be with one or two other geldings and with someone who is willing to love on him (he will get into your heart, 100%). His owner knows that special person, home, situation with friends is out there for him. Are you that someone?

  • Currently living in a 24/7 turn out with free-choice hay and a run-in
  • Does well in a herd of geldings = middle of the herd
  • Loves mares over the fence, but is not currently turned out with any
  • Does well in quiet or busy barns – is good around dogs, chickens, cats, etc.
  • Trailers, clips, bathes, blankets
  • Good for the vet, UTD on vaccines
  • Good for the farrier, Barefoot and comfortable
  • Allergic to oats but can tolerate occasional treats with oats in them
  • Loves carrots! 🥕
