Meet Jack and Bran!

Meet Jack and Bran, a bonded pair of geldings who are looking for a new home together due to no fault of their own – their owner has suffered an injury ! For inquiries about Jack and Bran, please contact their owner, Katrina by email or text/phone.
Phone: (207) 468-2162
Jack is a 15hh, 9 year old Missouri Fox Trotter gelding. He is an amazing boy who comes from a neglectful home prior to his current one. He takes a little while to come out of his shell, but once he does, he is full of life and personality. He rides English and will need an experienced rider.
Bran is a 16 year old buckskin QH gelding. Bran rides both English and Western and can be ridden by beginners and up!
If you are able to bring these two boys into your barn and into your heart, please reach out to their owner today!

Meet Chance!

Chance is seeking a gentle, experienced home. His family is facing severe hardship and must evacuate their home for safety and health reasons (toxic mold and structural damage). He has been loved beyond measure, and they are hoping to find him a safe, healthy place where he can thrive. His rehoming is a last resort that they have been forced into considering. His current people are searching for a new person for Chance, one who will offer him a safe place to land, forever.
⭐️About Chance
Chance is a wise, sensitive horse with a huge heart. He bonds deeply with his person and does best with someone who values connection, patience, and gentle handling.
He is not currently ridden — he’s always shown a strong objection to being under saddle, and I’ve chosen to respect that. The right person may one day explore very light riding, but only if he is completely comfortable. His emotional and physical well-being always come first.
Chance thrives with calm, consistent interaction and someone who listens closely to his cues. He is not suited for someone who pushes or rushes; he needs an owner who prioritizes trust and partnership.

🐴Companion Requirements
Chance needs a sound, sturdy, confident companion. He does not feel safe with an anxious, unsound, or unstable herd mate. Having a solid buddy is essential for his emotional comfort and security.

🌿Health & Care
Medical / Physical
• Had strangles in April 2021; was hospitalized, treated, and recovered fully.
• Mild locking stifle, managed very well with regular movement.
• Small sarcoid under the girth area — unchanged for years and not bothersome. Tried Silver Lining Herbs for a year with no change.
• Developed intermittent runny nose this summer. Full vet work-up including X-rays showed no infection; vet believes allergies. He will be starting generic Zyrtec this week (approximately $45/month via bulk Amazon purchase).
• Tolerates stall time when needed (bad weather or injury), but currently lives in an open stall connected to a large dry lot and track system.
• Dental done every 6-9 months. He has built an amazing relationship with Toby Densmore, the Float Fairy.
• Hooves trimmed every 4-6 weeks – requires a patient, calm, gentle voiced farrier. Elizabeth Glass has been an amazing fit for him for the past 4 years.
• Kept up to date on vaccines and does very well for his vets at Annabessacook Veterinary.
Diet / Management
• Thrives on soft, fine hay.
• Will get Free Fecal Water Syndrome if fed coarse or stemmy hay.
• Not suitable for free-choice hay unless paired with consistent exercise.
• Can be a picky eater and has done best on a forage-based diet. His current feeding routine:
• 1 cup soaked Timothy pellets
• ¼ heaping cup Vermont Blend
• 1 tbsp salt (twice daily)
• Elevate Vitamin E once daily
• Recently added a small amount of Hay Stretcher Pellets to help him eat supplements; a switch to a different ration balancer may also work well
• Receives weighed hay 4x/day, with a mix of loose hay and hay nets.
• Benefits from an owner who is attentive to subtle changes in appetite, comfort, and routine.

💛Ideal Home
Chance deserves a peaceful, loving environment with:
• A gentle, intuitive owner
• A healthy, confident equine companion
• Someone who prioritizes the horse’s needs above riding goals
• A consistent, predictable routine
• A quiet, thoughtful management setup with safe footing and good-quality hay

Meet Ellie!

Meet Ellie, a 23 year old Haflinger mare. Please contact Ellie’s owner, Rick, with any questions about Ellie.
Phone: (207) 651-3863
Ellie is a sweet girl who has been with her current owners as a beloved pet for over 20 years. Due to the recent passing of Rick’s wife, their farm has become too much to manage on his own. As such, Ellie is looking for a new, loving home to live out the rest of her days!
Ellie foundered about 10 years ago and takes daily thyroid medication. Please reach out to her owner for more information.

Meet Midge!

** This is a courtesy post for Northstar Horse Rescue **
Meet Midge, a cob-sized (14.2 hh), 25 year old pony mare. If you are interested in hearing more about this amazing little mare, please contact Elizabeth by phone or email.
Phone: (207) 317-7565 Email: [email protected]
Midge (or “Midgie” as she is affectionately known) has a lot of spunk for being 25 years old. She came to Northstar Horse Rescue due to her owner being unable to care for her. Midgie has been a lesson horse, has shown, and has done hunter jumpers. While she may not be overly enthusiastic about jumping anymore, she is a super fast ponies who keeps up with the thoroughbreds at the rescue!
** She is looking for her new best friend to love on her. **
** She adores having her mane and tail brushed. **
** She does well turned out with one or two assertive mares. She cannot be turned out with geldings. **
** She will go with a contract – no resale, must be returned to the rescue if she does not settle into her new home. **

Meet Blackie!

Meet Blackie, a 25 year old, 14.2hh mustang gelding. For inquiries about Blackie, please contact his owner directly by email: [email protected].
Blackie is a retired 25 year old Mustang who is very mellow and low maintenance. He is good with both the vet and the farrier, as well as with dogs and people. Though he is currently an “only horse,” he has lived with other horses in the past and was fine with them. He has Cushings and is currently medicated on 1/4 tablet of Prascend each day. The vet says his weight is very good. His current farm has been his retirement home for 7 years, but his owner is selling the property and moving to a home that can’t accommodate him.

Meet Metro!

Meet Metro, a 16hh, 11 year old OTTB gelding. Please contact Metro’s owner, Kim, for inquiries about this special boy.
Phone: (978) 702-7303
** Please note, this horse is located in southern New Hampshire **
Meet My Man Metro, a sweet chestnut gelding who is looking for a new place to call home where he can connect with that special person who can satisfy his need for problem solving. He is outgoing, curious and lovable and while he enjoys his semi-retired life, he needs mental and physical stimulation as well (think of a military Sargent, retiring at 62 then needing to take a part time job at a gym to talk with people and keep in shape!).
He stands at 16h, and though he has lost a little muscle mass from his semi retired life-style, he is a bit more beefcake than your average OTTB. He has no starts/no gate card and though he has just enough spice to keep you smiling, I can only surmise that he just wasn’t fast enough for the track. His owner successfully showed him on the NHHJA circuit for 3 seasons, took home ribbons, and had a lot of fun. Their fun came to an abrupt halt late in 2023 when he tripped at the canter and his neuro status was called into question. Long story short, a trip to UPenn/NBC and he has definitive compression in his C5-C6 vertebrae with osteoarthritis in C6-C7, making him unfit (read: unsafe) to ride. So, he is a companion only placement, no riding.
His owner has someone working Natural Horsemanship/Liberty training with him where he is currently stabled. He loves it, as it keeps his brain busy. She finds that he likes to let loose in a paddock (or the indoor ring) for a few minutes and he marches up to her with a “Let’s get to work” attitude. His owner lunges him 1-2 times per week, occasionally over poles too (honestly a little heartbreaking to watch, as he is a beautiful mover at the trot, not as much at the canter, but he has a wall full of ribbons attesting to his movement in the Hunter ring!). With regular stimulation with a person who is experienced with horses, he is well mannered. Can be a bit fresh in hand if he hasn’t been able to romp in a paddock or in an indoor ring.
He is in an in/out stall, but his owner found he never settled comfortably with being able to freely go in/out at night. The barn has shared fence lines so he and his neighbors would cause some trouble after night check with resulting minor cuts/dings. The decision was made to keep him in at night. He was happy at his prior barn with normal daily turnout, in the comfort of his stall for the night and for AM/PM grain. His prior turnout had always been individual with more appropriate distance between paddocks so his owner does not know his position in a herd or his behavior. He would need to be introduced slowly with an experienced eye on him. Though he was never bred, it is likely he was gelded late. The “ladies” love him and while he doesn’t quite understand why or otherwise behave stud-like, he likes them too. 😉
His prior barn was a busy show barn and a working farm with dogs and chickens, so while it is quieter where he is now with no dogs allowed (and no chickens), he is good around dogs, chickens and cats.
He is good with trailering, vet, farrier (though he does like to get in her pocket, nudge her for possible treats), clipping, bathing. UTD on shots, currently barefoot but he had winter shoes on the front Dec-late March this year. Blankets go with him. He is allergic to oats but can tolerate occasional treats with oats in them. Loves his carrots and contrary to him claiming he isn’t flexible, he stretches great for them!
He is a very special goober gelding. His owner knows that special person, home, situation is out there for him. Are you that someone?

Meet Greyson!

Greyson is a 21 year old, 15.2hh, grade gelding. Please contact Greyson’s owner, Marina, for more information or other inquiries.
Phone: (207) 691-2887
Greyson is a gorgeous, older gentleman who is ready for semi-retirement as a light trail riding horse or companion. He has been there, done that – hunter jumper shows, eventing, trail rides, and beginner lessons – and now he is ready to relax!
He is a giant goofball with a big heart and a soft spot for cookies. He is great with kids, dogs, cats, and equipment. He would be best suited for light trail rides, hanging out with his friends, and his next one person who will love him! He will be rehomed with a contract and first right of refusal to his current owner.
