We’re growing! The Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals (MSSPA) seeks an experienced, reliable, and compassionate individual to join us in caring for rescued horses.


Barn Staff are responsible for all of the daily care of the horses, including feeding, scrubbing and dumping water troughs, administering medications (oral and ophthalmic), cleaning stalls and paddocks, grooming, handling, light groundwork, and assisting with basic medical care. This is a physically demanding, hands-on position working directly with horses of all ages, sizes, and temperaments, many of whom have come from neglect situations with limited handling.

Requirements:
● Applicants must be comfortable and competent working around a large herd and
handling unfamiliar or unpredictable horses.
● Ability to work safely, follow established procedures, and communicate effectively
with teammates.
● Must be comfortable interacting with the public, including volunteers and visitors.
● Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions (rain,
snow, sleet, extreme heat, extreme cold).
● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Schedule:
Part-time, 8am to 4pm, two to three days per week, including one weekend day.
