Doc Holliday is the elder statesman of the group of six horses recently surrendered to the State of Maine. While his owner could no longer provide the care they needed, it was clear from the moment he arrived that Doc had been deeply loved. Of the group, he came in the healthiest – and perhaps the most confident.
Sometimes… a little too confident.
Doc is a distinguished older gentleman with plenty of opinions about personal space. He can be wonderfully pushy, occasionally forgetting that good manners still apply, no matter how many birthdays you’ve celebrated. He’s learning that being polite isn’t optional, even for a horse with as much life experience as he has.
Ironically, once you tie him up, Doc transforms into the perfect gentleman. He stands quietly and patiently, as though someone flipped a switch, happily waiting while the world goes on around him.
His current best friend is Scout, and the two have settled into life at the farm together as they begin this next chapter.
We’re still getting to know Doc, but one thing is already certain: beneath the confidence, the opinions, and the occasional reminder about boundaries is a horse who has a lot of life left to enjoy. And we have a feeling he’ll have plenty to teach us along the way.
