Queenie
Born: 2000
Breed: Pony of the Americas
Gender: Mare
Color: Leopard

Queenie is a compact little Pony of the Americas mare with enough personality to fill a horse twice her size. She came to the MSSPA as part of a group of six horses surrendered to the State of Maine, and she has quickly made it clear that while she may be small, she has no intention of being overlooked.
Nearly blind, Queenie relies heavily on her best friend, Rosa, to help her navigate the world. But don’t let that fool you into thinking she’s fragile. Queenie sees just enough to know exactly when someone is coming to catch her – and can disappear across the paddock with surprising speed when the mood strikes.
She is sweet, affectionate, and wonderfully opinionated. Like many horses adjusting to a new life, she’s still working through a few things. Farrier appointments remain high on her list of “absolutely not,” and she’s been known to snatch a foot away and launch herself over her handler in dramatic protest. Thankfully, she’s making progress, one session at a time.
Like many older horses, Queenie has Cushing’s, which is managed with medication. But life hasn’t slowed Queenie down one bit. She meets each day with a healthy dose of sass and complete confidence that her opinions deserve to be heard.
And somehow… she’s usually right.
