Mystic came to us alongside Duchess when their owner, despite loving them deeply, could no longer provide the future they needed. For more than five years, Mystic lived in a space so small she could only take a few steps before turning around and walking back. Even within that limited world, she remained beyond human touch – unable to be caught, haltered, or handled.
When Mystic arrived, fear shaped nearly every interaction with people.
But fear is no longer the whole story.
Today, Mystic is showing us who she is beneath the instinct for self protection. She is curious, thoughtful, and remarkably intelligent. Each day, she makes small but meaningful choices to engage with the people around her – accepting scratches, seeking connection, and recently beginning to place her nose into a halter on her own.
To some, that may seem like a small thing. To Mystic, it represents an entirely new world. Her rehabilitation is not measured in days or weeks, and it isn’t guided by a schedule. The timeline belongs to Mystic. Our job is simply to listen, support, and celebrate each step forward.
The horse who once couldn’t imagine being touched is now beginning to imagine freedom, partnership, and a life larger than the one she has always known. We don’t know exactly where her journey will lead, but we can’t wait to see what she discovers next.
