Brooklyn

Born: 2007

Breed: Standardbred

Gender: Mare

Color: Dark Bay

Brooklyn is a gentle Standardbred mare with a long story behind her. She came to us as part of a group of horses surrendered from a former breeding farm where conditions had quietly deteriorated over many years – no shelter, inadequate nutrition, and hooves extremely misshapen and damaged by standing on unsanitary ground. By the time she arrived, Brooklyn was underweight, exhausted, and battling a lice infestation.

Her feet are still a work in progress. Years of neglect left their mark, and one hoof – permanently misshapen by an old injury – will always require thoughtful care. Because of this, Brooklyn isn’t destined for an active riding life.

But that’s not where her value lives.

Born in 2007 and once a racehorse, Brooklyn has experienced many different chapters in her life. Through it all, she has maintained her gentle nature. She meets people with a quiet generosity, enjoys grooming sessions, and seems to appreciate the simple comforts she was denied for so long – a warm place to nap in the sun, a pasture full of grass, and the quiet companionship of a peaceful herd.

There’s a quiet dignity to Brooklyn, a horse who has nothing to prove, and everything to offer in her own, unhurried way.
