Sjoeke (pronounced SHOO-kah) is one of our beloved Friesian geldings and a horse whose quiet nature is easy to appreciate, if you take the time to notice him.
Unlike some of his more outgoing herdmates, Sjoeke is content to wait patiently for his turn, quietly watching the world around him rather than demanding to be the center of attention, most of the time.
When it’s time to come in from the pasture, Sjoeke suddenly remembers that he’s a very large Friesian. Personal space becomes more of a suggestion than a rule, sometimes he’ll happily lean his considerable size into the conversation. It’s a gentle reminder that even the quiet ones benefit from an occasional refresher on their manners. Sjoeke occasionally reminds us that he still knows how to keep everyone on their toes and that life is more fun with some adventure!
Most days, though, you’ll find him happily accepting a grooming session or quietly enjoying the company of people. Sjoeke may not be the loudest personality in the barn, but those who take the time to know him fall in love with his gentle soul and delightfully unexpected sense of humor.
