Duchess
Born: 2007
Breed: Quarterhorse Cross
Sex: Mare
Color: Bay
Height: 15 hands

Duchess came to us alongside her herdmate, Mystic, when their owner was faced with the difficult reality of losing their housing and could no longer keep them.
From the moment she arrived, Duchess made an impression with her gentle, kind nature. She is the type of mare who quietly takes others in – especially the young ones – offering a steady presence and an easy sense of belonging. In every herd she’s joined, she’s been respectful and submissive, more inclined to keep the peace than challenge it.

With people, Duchess is just as thoughtful. She leads kindly for handlers of all experience levels (with guidance), and carries a softness that makes her easy to be around. At times, she can feel unsure or nervous, but even then, she tries.
There’s a warmth to Duchess – a kind eye, a willing heart, and a quiet way of showing up for those around her. As we continue to learn more about her past and her training, one thing is already clear: she’s a horse who gives more than she asks.
