Merienna is the youngest and smallest of the Friesian group, standing just 14.3 hands tall!
Like many young horses, she’s still learning that enthusiasm and good manners aren’t always the same thing. She can be bold, forward, and pushy, especially when excitement gets the better of her. Thankfully, Merienna is just as willing as she is enthusiastic.
With consistent handling, she’s making wonderful progress, becoming a thoughtful and enjoyable partner, even if she occasionally forgets herself and tries to barrel through her handler.
Merienna has all the ingredients of an exceptional horse, intelligence, confidence, curiosity, and heart. She’s still growing into herself, and we have a feeling her best chapters are still ahead.
Although she has a basic foundation in handling and safety, we are unsure if she has received formal training beyond those essentials. As a result, she is ready for the next stage of her education, and we are looking for adopters who are excited to help her continue that journey.
We will begin the process of reviewing applications on September 28th.
Training Requirements
Our focus in this process is not simply to find these horses a home, it is to give them the opportunity to reach their full potential while ensuring they remain safe, confident, and successful throughout their lives. For that reason, our goal is to place each horse in a home that can provide consistent, professional training.
Because of where these horses are in their development, applicants should either:
- Be a professional trainer themselves, or
- Have a clear plan to place the horse into a structured professional training program. (Both the potential adopter and their trainer must be present at the handling step of the adoption process.)
As part of the adoption process, applicants will be asked to submit a training plan. The purpose of this plan is not to evaluate a particular training philosophy or method, but to better understand how the applicant is approaching the horse’s education and long-term success.
The training plan should include:
- Who will be providing the professional training.
- The anticipated frequency and structure of the training program.
- The training priorities for the horse’s first year.
- The goals you hope to accomplish during that time and how you plan to progress toward them.
We are not looking for occasional lessons or infrequent trainer visits. Rather, we are looking for a consistent, structured program that provides these horses with the time, guidance, and repetition they need to become safe, confident partners.
Our Adoption Process
As with all MSSPA adoptions, placement decisions are not made on a first-come, first-serve basis. Our responsibility is to each individual horse, and we carefully consider every application to determine the best overall match for that horse’s long-term success and well-being.
We recognize that there are many excellent ways to train horses. We are not looking for one specific discipline or training philosophy. Rather, we are looking for adopters who are committed to providing a wonderful, safe, and loving home and who demonstrate thoughtful planning, a commitment to continued education, and a realistic understanding of the time and consistency these young horses will need to thrive.
