Lark is an Arabian mare who recently came to the MSSPA alongside Wren after being surrendered to the State of Maine. While Wren’s heartbreaking physical condition understandably drew much of the initial attention, Lark had her own wounds to heal. She arrived needing overdue veterinary and farrier care and carrying a deep distrust of the unfamiliar people around her.

In those first few days, catching Lark required plenty of patience. She kept her distance, watching every movement with wary eyes, convinced that staying far away was the safest choice.

Little by little, that’s beginning to change.

Each day, Lark seems a little more willing to believe that people might have something good to offer. She’s becoming easier to catch, a little more relaxed, and just a bit more curious about the humans caring for her. Those small moments of trust are the foundation of every relationship we build with our horses, and with Lark, each one feels like a quiet victory.

She’s still at the very beginning of her journey with us, but beneath the uncertainty is a stunning Arabian mare whose personality is only just beginning to emerge. We can’t wait to discover who Lark becomes as she settles in, regains her health, and learns that she’s finally safe.
