Smokin’

Born: 2003
Breed: Standardbred
Sex: Gelding
Color: Dark Bay

Smokin’ is a retired Standardbred racehorse who approaches life with quiet purpose. Surrendered alongside his friend Moxie when their owners could no longer afford their care, he arrived ready to take on whatever was asked of him – as long as everyone remained focused on the task at hand.

Because for Smokin’, there is very little room for nonsense.

Whether he’s navigating obstacles, learning new groundwork exercises, or encountering something unfamiliar, Smokin’ tends to approach life thoughtfully and seriously. New things can make him a little nervous at first – he’s not above getting a bit wide-eyed when presented with a new challenge – but once he has a chance to process, he settles in quickly and gets down to business. He likes having a job to do and takes pride in doing it well.

That doesn’t mean he’s difficult. Quite the opposite.

Smokin’ is generally easygoing, pleasant to handle, and willing to try new things. He has already worn a saddle and continues to build skills and confidence as we learn more about him and his interests.

There is something quietly dependable about Smokin’. While some horses demand attention with big personalities or dramatic stories, he earns admiration through consistency, effort, and a willingness to show up each day and do his best.

He’s the kind of horse who may not seek the spotlight – but once you know him, you find yourself appreciating him more and more.
