Gibson came to us from a breeding and racing farm where conditions had deteriorated beyond what any horse should endure. Severely thin and malnourished, critically deficient in essential nutrients, and battling an extreme case of Lyme disease, his body was struggling on every level. Muscle loss, weakness, and neurological symptoms made even simple movement uncertain.
For years, Gibson had been confined to a stall – never turned out, never able to run, never feeling the sun on his back. By the time he was rescued, he was standing on over five feet of compacted manure, his world reduced to a space he couldn’t leave without intervention.
And yet, he’s still here.
Gibson is one of the most sensitive horses on the farm. His healing is a work in progress – he is easily overwhelmed and still learning how to feel safe in a world that once gave him very little reason to trust. Being handled, being asked to try new things – these are not small asks for him.
But his transformation is happening right before our eyes.
Slowly, his body is filling out. The sharp edges are softening. The anxious, searching energy is beginning to settle, moment by moment.
Gibson’s journey isn’t a fast one. It’s not easy. But it’s real – and every step forward is hard-won and deeply meaningful.
